AMD Ryzen 9000G Series makes surprise appearance on motherboard compatability list

New AMD APUs could be just around the corner according to Gigabyte.

The long-rumoured AMD Ryzen 9000G Series may still be on track to launch in the near future despite their absence during Computex 2025. The 9000G series, which refers to desktop processors that boast stronger integrated graphics compared to their non-G counterparts, has broken cover on Gigabyte’s B650 motherboards’ memory compatibility (QVL) lists.

Although the list makes no specific references to SKUs, it appears that all Ryzen 9000G Series processors will play nice with the same BIOS and DRAM profiles as existing AM5 CPUs. This makes sense, as rumours suggest the chips won’t include any major shifts in design using established Zen 5 and RDNA 3.5 architectures.

Using AMD’s Ryzen mobile processors as a reference point, the top 9000G SKU may pack a Radeon 890M GPU. While performance may vary owing to differences in desktop TDPs, this should allow the processor to at the very least push around 40fps on average in the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us: Part 1 with appropriately tuned settings and resolution.

Like other G-Series SKUs before them, Ryzen 9000G will undoubtedly appeal most to those to the likes of content consumers and retro gamers, i.e. those that want some gaming power but want a compact solution. The chips’ support for AV1 hardware decoding should make for smooth and efficient video playback, while the CPU side should have enough horsepower to drive most emulators.

Personally, I’d love to see this CPU-GPU combo in a mini PC that can serve as a living room media centre and light gaming box all at once. Since this is a Socket AM5 processor, you can always drop it into a larger chassis and install a dedicated GPU to give it a new lease of life too.

Short of an official announcement, the only hint at a potential release date for these AMD Ryzen 9000G APUs is based on rumours expecting it in Q4 2025.
