AMD is approaching the launch of its Ryzen Threadripper 9000 series processors, as indicated by US retailer B&H Photo. The brand is seemingly targeting between $1,600 and $13,000 for the latest additions, with pre-orders opening later this month.
According to B&H, the Threadripper Pro 9000WX CPUs will become available on July 23 at 9:00 am ET, followed by the Threadripper 9000X models a week later, on July 31 at 9:00 am ET. Interestingly, the retailer didn’t list the low-end 12- and 16-core Pro models, which may not be launching at the same time. This leaves potential buyers with a choice between 24, 32, 64, or 96 cores.
Pro series | Cores | Threads | Base Clock | Boost Clock | L3 Cache |
9995WX | 96 | 192 | 2.5GHz | 5.4GHz | 384MB |
9985WX | 64 | 128 | 3.2GHz | 5.4GHz | 256MB |
9975WX | 32 | 64 | 4.0GHz | 5.4GHz | 128MB |
9965WX | 24 | 48 | 4.2GHz | 5.4GHz | 128MB |
9955WX | 16 | 32 | 4.5GHz | 5.4GHz | 64MB |
9945WX | 12 | 24 | 4.7GHz | 5.4GHz | 64MB |
Non-Pro series | Cores | Threads | Base Clock | Boost Clock | L3 Cache |
9980X | 64 | 128 | 3.2GHz | 5.4GHz | 256MB |
9970X | 32 | 64 | 4.0GHz | 5.4GHz | 128MB |
9960X | 24 | 48 | 4.2GHz | 5.4GHz | 128MB |
All models will feature AMD’s latest Zen 5 architecture offering up to 26% generational improvement over current flagship, the Threadripper Pro 7995WX, according to official tests. These improvements are partly due to higher boost clocks, enhanced AVX-512 support, and compatibility with faster DDR5-6400 memory. For reference, Threadripper 7000 supports only up to DDR5-5200 ECC memory in quad- or octa-channel configurations.
Videocardz has managed to dig pricing for AMD’s Threadripper 9000 CPUs using B&H Photo’s price range tool, showing between 4% and 30% increase over their predecessors. These go as follows:
- Threadripper 9960X : 24-Core at $1,600 (+7% vs 7960X)
- Threadripper 9970X : 32-Core at $2,600 (+4% vs 7970X)
- Threadripper 9980X : 64-Core at $5,300 (+6% vs 7980X)
- Threadripper Pro 9965WX : 24-Core at $3,100 (+17% vs 7965WX)
- Threadripper Pro 9975WX : 32-Core at $4,400 (+13% vs 7975WX)
- Threadripper Pro 9985WX : 64-Core at $8,500 (+16% vs 7985WX)
- Threadripper Pro 9995WX : 96-Core at $13,000 (+30% vs 7995WX)
Note, however, that these aren’t official AMD prices as the company has yet to unveil them, but they give us a glimpse at what to expect. That said, they seem reasonable considering the claimed IPC improvements over the 7000 series. In any case, these CPUs target professionals needing a lot of multi-threaded horsepower, where performance takes priority over price.
