Chinese manufacturer Colorful continues to branch out with an increasingly diverse product range. The firm is best known as a purveyor of GeForce graphics cards, but now proffers motherboards, peripherals and entire systems. The latest addition to its growing catalogue is a gaming laptop outfitted with an Intel 12th Gen CPUs and Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics.
Keeping true to its brand name, the colourful X15 XS comes in a choice of Pine Blue or Mist Grey and features a 15.6in IPS display boasting a 144Hz refresh rate on a 1080p resolution, plus an 86 per cent screen-to-body ratio and 300-nit peak brightness. Attached to it is an RGB backlit keyboard with 15 colour choices, and a 1.8mm travel distance.
Going inside we find one of two Intel 12th Gen CPUs, either a Core i5-12500H 12-cores/16-threads (4P+ 8E cores) or a Core i7-12700H 14-cores/20-threads (6P+ 8E cores). Both are sufficient for most use cases and represent sensible choices for the mid-range gaming market.
Speaking of gaming, there’s only one GPU option, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 Ti supporting G-Sync Ultimate and making use of the display’s 144Hz refresh rate for a tear-free experience.
Additionally, this laptop’s memory comes in a 16GB (2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz) variant only. Ample for gaming, and judging by the product shots, we imagine the DIMM slots will be accessible for multi-taskers in need of extra RAM.
In the storage department Colorful plays it safe with a 512GB NVMe SSD, which is a little on the low side, especially if you are planning to mainly game on this laptop. With that said, there may be a possibility to upgrade the SSD down the line. But wait for reviews, just to be sure.
Port-wise, there is one USB 2.0, one USB 3.2 Gen 1, plus a pair of USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C. Mini DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI provide display output, and while a 3.5mm combo audio port and Gigabyte LAN are par for the course on a gaming laptop, it’s nice to see a MicroSD card reader has also made the cut.
Finally, the Colorful X15 XS comes equipped with Wi-Fi 6 alongside a 54WH battery and will cost USD $1,099 (£808 plus VAT.) for the Core i7, or USD $999 (£734 plus VAT.) for the Core i5.
