Fallout 76 and Total War: Warhammer II are free with Prime Gaming

It’s time for Fallout 76 to get a second chance.

After offering Need for Speed Heat, Far Cry 4, and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, Amazon keeps on giving via its Prime subscription service, with this month seeing the arrival of yet another seven games.

Each month, Amazon Prime subscribers get to claim and keep several games, and this one is no exception. In October 2022, Prime members can play seven games, namely:

  • Fallout 76
  • Total War: Warhammer II
  • Middle-earth: Shadow of War
  • Glass Masquerade: Origins
  • LOOM
  • Hero’s Hour
  • Horace

Between Epic Games Store’s weekly free games, Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus monthly offerings, not to forget Steam which also gives free games from time to time, PC gamers are spoiled for choice. Not complaining though, especially with games costing upward of £100 when you factor in DLCs or cosmetics. Yes, no one is forced to buy them, but one may say they should have been in the game in the first place, since many are planned even before release.

Fallout 76

The latest addition to a well-known franchise, Fallout 76 is an RPG taking place 25 years after a nuclear apocalypse. You play as a survivor coming out of the first vaults (bunkers) opening doors to the outside radioactive and dangerous world.

The game had a rough start with many bugs, a lack of compelling story, and overall poor performance, but today things seem to have changed with many updates, bug fixes and expansions. It may be the occasion to give this one a second chance.

Total War: Warhammer II

One of a long lineage of excellent strategy games, Total War: Warhammer II takes place in a fantasy universe where elves, dark elves and even dinosaurs fight to the death for world domination.

The sequel offers players an all-new narrative campaign taking place across the vast continents of Lustria, Ulthuan, Naggaroth and the Southlands. It introduces four new playable races: High Elves capable of holding huge numbers of enemies with a small army, Dark Elves that become more powerful with each drop of blood on the battlefield, Lizardmen with their dinosaurs, and Skavens that focus on spam tactics using swarms of cheap units.

Note that owners of both Total War Warhammer titles can take advantage of a larger campaign bringing together the Old and New Worlds, as well as all factions from both games.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an action-adventure game taking place in The Lord of the Rings universe. It is a direct sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. You get to infiltrate behind enemy lines, conquer fortresses and dominate Mordor from within.

Owners of the first game (Shadow of Mordor) can reuse their game saves, allowing Shadow of War to follow any choices you made in the original title such as the Orc with the best affinity and your sworn enemy. If you haven’t played the first game, no worries, since Shadow of War storyline is self-sufficient.

An excellent game to play after an episode of The Rings of Power.
