Lenovo is forced to delay or cancel some Legion Go 2 orders due to extreme demand

Lenovo is working on plans to remedy this situation, which is perceived by many disappointed gamers as a poorly managed launch.

Lenovo has recently opened pre-orders for its next-gen Legion Go 2 gaming handheld. Overwhelming demand has caused issues keeping up with production. Because of this, the company is limiting the number of orders to avoid long wait lists that may take months to honour. A surprising turn of events considering the Go 2’s $1,099 starting price.

In particular, it seems that Lenovo wasn’t prepared for the hype surrounding its new Legion Go 2 handheld, stating in its AMA post on Reddit, “We know that many of you have been asking about product delays so we owe you an explanation. The truth is pre-orders for the Legion Go Gen 2 has substantially exceeded our projections, leading to unforeseen delivery range extensions. We are working diligently with our teams worldwide to fill these orders as quickly as possible. We truly appreciate the overwhelming support of Legion fans, and ask for your patience while we work to get the Legion Go Gen 2 into your waiting hands.”

Unfortunately, this unforeseen situation has forced Lenovo to delay some orders and even cancel some that are too far down the wait list. The brand’s logic behind these cancellations is that it doesn’t feel comfortable holding onto customer payments for products that can’t ship in a timely manner, which is quite reasonable if you ask me. This should allow those unwilling to wait to go for an alternative. Those who saw their order cancelled, yet still want to buy a Legion Go 2, can monitor the Lenovo’s website for updates on availability.

The good news is that more units are seemingly already on their way to major retailers globally, so interested gamers won’t have to wait for long. Furthermore, this situation should ease as the early high demand gets fulfilled. Also, some reports indicate that Lenovo has issued 10% discount coupons to affected customers, which can be used for future product purchases.

“We know this is frustrating, and we’re truly sorry for the inconvenience it caused, especially for our most passionate fans. The Legion Go Gen 2 was built with you in mind, and this experience has been an important lesson for us. We’ll use this to improve and ensure a better process moving forward,” said Lenovo.

As for those lucky enough to still be in the race, pre-orders have apparently been delayed to mid-November, previously scheduled for early October. Hopefully, this won’t take long to avoid attracting scalpers, which would make the situation even worse by taking advantage of hyped users.

The reason for this high demand has a lot to do with the Legion Go 2’s great specs, which put it among the fastest portable gaming machines. Lenovo is planning two variants; both feature a 144Hz OLED screen but differ in internal hardware. The cheaper $1,099 model comes equipped with a slower AMD Ryzen Z2 chip plus 16GB of LPDDR5X-8000, while the higher $1,479 model boasts AMD’s new Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip – which also powers Asus’ ROG Xbox Ally X – plus 32GB of RAM.

Either way, you should get a nice on-the-go experience, not forgetting the plethora of exclusive features, from the removable controllers to trackpads and mouse-like functionality. That is, if you are willing to wait.
