OneXPlayer just teased a bonkers Ryzen AI Max+ handheld, complete with liquid cooling and other premium features

Offering 120W of gaming performance on the go, OneXFly Apex could be the premium handheld many have waited for.

OneXPlayer has introduced a new gaming handheld targeting gamers who won’t settle for anything less than maximum performance on the go. Leveraging the power of AMD’s flagship mobile processor, OneXFly Apex could redefine portable gaming, offering outstanding capabilities previously constrained to laptops and desktops.

OneXFly Apex is the third handheld to feature AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, joining competing solutions from GPD and Ayaneo. While the finer details of the system beyond this are unknown, the teaser OneXPlayer provides gives us some exciting glimpses of what’s to come.

Let’s start with the APU of choice, Ryzen AI Max+ 395. This monitor chip packs 16 Zen 5 cores, alongside an RDNA 3.5 GPU with a massive 40 compute units. In OneXFly Apex the chip will have up to 120W of power at its disposal, far above the usual limits of handhelds.

All that juice will come from a removable 85Whr battery, that should offer up to ~40mins of playtime running at a full 120W. It’s unclear whether OneXPlayer plans to ship the handheld with two cells, mitigating downtime between charges, but this seems like a no brainer.

All those watts will generate a lot of heat, which is where OneXFly Apex’s unique cooling solution comes into play. The handheld will feature “silent liquid cooling”, a first for devices of this type as far as I’m aware. Here’s hoping OneXPlayer shares more details about its unqiue cooling design soon.

OneXFly Apex will come equipped with an 8in 120Hz VRR screen, but OneXPlayer hasn’t shared what resolution or panel technology it plans to use for the handheld. What we do know is that the company is using a natively landscape panel, which will welcomingly keep portrait orientation issues at bay, such as the screen appearing upside down during OS installation.

For storage, OneXFly Apex will come with a single PCIe Gen 4 M.2 slot plus support for Mini SSDs. Further niceties include multi-stage triggers as well as dual Harman speakers.

There’s no word on price yet, but expect OneXFly Apex to hit wallets hard. For reference, similarly-specced competition from GPD is doing the rounds at around $1,600. Such is the price you’ll need to pay for high-end, bleeding-edge systems like this one.
