Philips makes competitive gaming affordable with its 390Hz monitor

Track every one of your opponent's moves and gain the edge in competitive games.

Philips has announced an affordable gaming monitor targeting the utmost competitive players and esports gaming. Rocking a 390Hz refresh rate, it offers much-needed image clarity required during intense movement, helping users track their target at all times.

Evnia 25M2N5200U is a 24.5in monitor powered by a native 360Hz IPS panel, overclocked to reach a faster 390Hz refresh rate. As usual with this kind of high-refresh displays, the resolution is kept at 1920×1080. While higher resolutions are generally preferred, going with a FHD panel allows Philips to reduce cost, thus bringing the monitor within reach of more users. Furthermore, a lower resolution requires less powerful hardware to push all these frames per second. A win-win situation.

This top-notch refresh rate is complemented by a rated 0.3ms pixel response time and low input lag to ensure mouse movements are translated into visible motion with minimum delay. Additionally, Evnia 25M2N5200U supports image and clarity enhancement technologies such as Smart MBR, which reduces the perceived motion blur by strobing the backlight between each frame. The usual shadow booster, anti-blue-light, and crosshairs are also present.

Speed aside, we also find a DisplayHDR 400 certification, though don’t expect any groundbreaking HDR experiences. This limited HDR support is reflected through its low but acceptable gamut, covering 86% of Adobe RGB, 84% of DCI-P3, and 110% of sRGB. That said, this monitor is first and foremost made for competitive gaming and not content consumption, not to mention that most online content is distributed in SDR anyway. Plus, Philips advertises a Delta E below 2 in sRGB out of the box. Lastly, brightness is set to 400nits, with contrast sitting at a typical 1000:1.

For connectivity, we get two HDMI 2.0, one DisplayPort 1.4, a headphone jack, and a four-port USB hub. The stand is fully adjustable, offering 130mm height, 90° pivot, 30° swivel, and -5/20° tilt. Design-wise, 25M2N5200U follows the Evnia series style with a square pattern in the back and a slim stand. The recycled plastic effect on the feet may not be for everyone though.

Philips Evnia 25M2N5200U will be available to purchase from mid-May 2025 at £329 MSRP. This makes it the cheapest 390Hz monitor we found in retail, just below AOC AGON AG256FS at £349.
