SteelSeries has announced the Aeon Pro wireless controller, featuring Hall-Effect sticks, mechanical buttons, swappable batteries, and seamless multi-device switching. This pad targets players who want a premium controller to use with all their devices, including PC and Xbox.
The Aeon Pro combines features typically spread across multiple accessories into one high-quality controller, removing the hassle of maintaining multiple peripherals. It allows you to stay connected and switch between PC, Xbox, or mobile without having to re-pair your devices every time.
Instead of connecting to each machine individually, the controller communicates directly with its base/dock station, which in turn connects to your PC or Xbox via USB. This allows you to easily switch between devices using the controller’s A+Up buttons, all while removing the need to pair it before first use.
Note that official Xbox Series controllers also support switching between multiple devices using their dedicated pairing/sync button, but connecting to PC goes through Bluetooth, which has a lower polling rate and higher latency. The Aeon Pro uses 2.4GHz for both PC and Xbox, so it should offer better performance than Bluetooth.
On top of letting you hop between PC, Xbox, and any Bluetooth-equipped device, the Aeon Pro features hot-swappable batteries. These are similar to the ones you find on SteelSeries’s wireless headsets, such as the Arctis Nova Elite and Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, meaning you can power your controller with one while the other is charging inside the dock.
This removes the anxiety of getting a low/empty battery mid-gameplay, as you can swap to a full pack in seconds. Also, this is just an emergency option, as the controller will be topped up every time you put it on its dock anyway.
Build-wise, the Aeon Pro looks solid, featuring textured grips similar to Microsoft’s Xbox Elite controller, customisable rear paddles, hair‑triggers, Hall-Effect joysticks, interchangeable sticks, and mechanical switches on the D-Pad, plus XYAB buttons.
There is also an OLED display that shows a variety of information, such as battery life and connection status. Like other SteelSeries peripherals, the Aeon Pro can be customised via the brand’s GG software, with options to adjust dead zones and rumble intensity, and remap your buttons.
The SteelSeries Aeon Pro will be available in black or white for £229.99 / $259.99 / €259.99. At this price, it will directly compete with the £200 / $200 Razer Wolverine V3, which also features Hall-Effect joysticks, mechanical buttons, and swappable stick domes. The Aeon Pro’s extra cost gets you multi-system connections, an OLED screen, plus hot-swappable batteries. If you’re looking for the ultimate Xbox controller, this may be the one.
