ASRock’s Monster Hunter Radeon RX 9070 XT looks wild

A simple yet effective aesthetic change that shouldn’t cost a lot to make.

ASRock has announced a collaboration with game developer Capcom that to my delight features Monster Hunter Wilds. The company is launching a special edition Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB graphics card covered with game-related art that should please many fans. It combines the power of AMD’s latest graphics architecture with a style that strays from the usual black and white hunks of metal.

Based on the RX 9070 XT Steel Legend, this Monster Hunter Wilds edition features AMD’s flagship RDNA 4 GPU, boasting 64 compute units alongside 16GB of 20Gb/s GDDR6 memory running on a 256-bit bus. Likewise, the GPU frequency is also similar to the Steel Legend, set to 2,400MHz game and 2,970MHz boost. Everything is cooled by a 2.9-slot triple-fan setup, measuring 298mm x 131mm x 58mm. The backplate is also doing its part, contacting the PCB using thermal pads, all while improving the card’s overall rigidity.

The card comes painted in a mix of Navy blue and Steel blue, inspired by the Arkveld monster, giving it an eye-catching yet subtle flair. However, turning it around exposes us to a representation of Arkveld that covers most of the back plate. This reminds me of the old Radeon HD series, which often came with 3D art on the back. The difference this time is that we have a character many gamers will recognise.

ASRock has also implemented an exclusive Polychrome Sync RGB lighting on this edition, helping the card capture more of the essence of the game. Those who have an RGB-equipped system can also hook up their LEDs to the card’s built-in header, creating a synced light show that extends beyond the graphics card. That said, if RGB isn’t your jam, you can always disable all lighting with a flick of a switch – no software needed.

The combination of the coloured shroud, RGB nameplate (on the side), and artistic backplate makes for a unique package that is hard to pass by. More so, since this model is mostly based on a frame design manufactured in series, which should reduce its cost and make it within reach of many users. Considering the regular white Steel Legend’s £620 retail price, we expect this special model to hover around £650 to £670. That said, it is unclear whether ASRock is bundling the card with a copy of the game, in which case, the price may go higher.

Whether you get the game or not, you can be sure to enjoy the higher quality of FSR 4, which is officially supported on this card, freeing you from having to tinker with DLL mods to enable it on the latest games.
