“High-End Performance for creators and gamers.” AMD

Launched in 2024, the Ryzen 9 5900XT is one of the more recent AM4 CPUs to come out, and, despite the ‘900’ in its model name, it actually has 16 cores rather than 12. It’s basically a Ryzen 9 5950X, but with a slightly lower boost clock of 4.9GHz rather than 4.8GHz.

Unlike some of AMD’s later AM4 CPUs, it’s still based on the same Vermeer core as the original Zen 3 chips, rather than the cut-down Cezanne core, so it also has a decent amount of cache at its disposal. That means you get 64MB of L3 cache, with 32MB in each 8-core chiplet. When you consider that the Ryzen 9 5950X originally launched for a price of $799 in 2020, it’s remarkable that you can get what’s very nearly the same chip now for just $259.

That’s not the lowest ever price we’ve seen for this chip, but it’s a great deal in these times nonetheless. The 5900XT originally launched at $349, and it usually hovers around the $310 mark. As such, $259.99 is a fantastic price for 16 Zen 3 cores.

Importantly, if you already own an AM4 system, you won’t have to buy a new motherboard or memory to upgrade – you can just remove your old chip and install this new one. You may need to flash your motherboard BIOS for it to recognise the 5900XT, though. Check out our guide on how to update your motherboard BIOS if you’ve never done this before.

Amazon says this deal is selling fast, so you’ll want to get in sooner rather than later if you want to grab a low-cost 16-core CPU upgrade – you can click here to take you to the deal on Amazon.
