G.Skill is collaborating with GeometricFuture to create a new ATX chassis featuring a glass side panel and support for long graphics cards. The MD2 will be available in black or white for ¥459 (£55) and ¥499 (£60), respectively, with value being a major plus point.
According to Expreview, the MD2 follows conventional designs unlike previous G.Skill’s offerings such as the Z5i. This time there’s an ATX format with enough space to house an E-ATX motherboard. Expreview, however, didn’t mention any specific board sizes. Additionally, graphics cards can extend to 395mm in length, while CPU air coolers up to 170mm are also covered.
The chassis also supports up to 360mm liquid coolers in the front or top, and allows installation of three 120mm fans in the front, three up top, and one in the back.
Storage-wise, we have two 3.5in/2.5in under the power-supply cover, plus two 2.5in drive bays behind the motherboard tray. I/O comprises two 3.5mm audio jacks plus two USB Type-A ports (probably USB 3.1). Unfortunately, no USB Type-C this time, which is a disappointment.
The MD2’s façade is clearly inspired by G.Skill’s Trident Z5 memory sticks, with even the RGB LEDs positioned similarly. Talking of which, LED effects are controllable via Asus, Gigabyte, MSI or ASRock lighting software.
