I want the awesome Asus ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 5090, but I can’t afford the $3,999 asking price

This card celebrates the brand’s 30th anniversary, bringing back one of Asus’ signature card designs alongside heaps of premium features.

Asus has finally revealed pricing for its limited-edition ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 5090 alongside a full spec and feature list. This unique-looking card is set to debut at an eye-watering $3,999.99, limited to 1,000 units, making it twice as expensive as a regular RTX 5090 Founders Edition MSRP and emphasising its collector nature.

Despite its exorbitant price, under the hood, we still find the usual GB202 Blackwell GPU packing 21,760 CUDA cores alongside 32GB of 28Gb/s GDDR7 memory on a 512-bit bus. However, unlike MSRP cards, this special edition comes factory overclocked up to 2760MHz, which is 353MHz higher than the official RTX 5090 specs. This should give it a slight boost in performance, potentially running up to 10% faster depending on the task.

To feed the beast, Asus combined the capacity of the standard 12V-2×6 cable with its proprietary GC-HPWR connector to give users up to 800W to play with. This is similar to what a modder recently did, which allowed him to turbocharge his GPU. This time, however, you won’t need to reach for your soldering iron to unlock up to 10% more overclocking headroom, according to Asus.

Asus isn’t messing around and uses a 3.9-slot, quad-fan design measuring 370.3mm x 150.5mm x 77.3mm, made of a full-copper vapour chamber and a bunch of heatpipes. This cooling apparatus contacts the GPU using liquid metal TIM, offering the great thermal conductivity needed for advanced overclocking.

Though performance and overclocking are one of the ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 5090’s strongest points, they are not its only features. To begin with, the card utilises reinforced 3oz copper PCB layers to help reduce voltage drops while improving VRM heat dissipation. It also includes Memory Defroster, which automatically activates around 0°C to ensure stable operation by addressing memory-related freezes. I’m not forgetting a dual BIOS to give you an easy fallback during extreme overclocking, either.

Those who simply want a nice-looking, special card aren’t forgotten, as Asus has packed its Power Detector+ technology, which monitors for anomalies across the six 12V power pins of the 12V-2×6 cable before notifying the user to reseat the connector in case of a problem. Lastly, to ensure this chunky beast isn’t putting uneven strain on the PCIe slot, Asus has a built-in level sensor that warns you about potential sag through the GPU Tweak III app.

The ROG Matrix Platinum RTX 5090 is clearly a collector’s item first, slotting at the top of Asus’ GPU lineup.  Well, aside from the full-Gold $500,000 Astral. Yet even if you have the funds, you will likely have a hard time getting one due to the 1,000-unit limited run. If you managed to grab one, don’t forget to share it with us on X.
