MSI launches all-AMD MAG META 5 5E gaming desktop

You better get compressed air with it, you may need it in a couple of months.

MSI is having a shot at an all-AMD system featuring an eight-core, 16-thread Ryzen processor and RX 6700 XT graphics card.

Dubbed MAG META 5 5E, this turnkey rig contains a Ryzen 7 5800 CPU capable of a 4.6GHz top speed, alongside MSI’s own RX 6700 XT 12GB GDDR6 graphics card and two DDR4 2,933MHz U-DIMMs with capacities up to 64GB.

Specs like these should net you somewhere around 70 FPS in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, 100 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and 90 FPS in Horizon Zero Dawn at a 1440p resolution, and compatibility with AMD’s Radeon Super Resolution upscaling technology leaves the door open for 4K UHD.

The components are installed on a non-specified B550 motherboard that provides one M.2 2280 SSD slot, an unknown number of SATA ports, 1Gb/s LAN (RTL8111H), Intel’s dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (AC3168) and Bluetooth 4.2.

Two PSU choices are available, a 500W 80Plus Bronze or 750W 80Plus Gold, which can be seen through the glass side panel of a 40L (195mm x 515mm x 466mm) case, alongside two 2.5in plus 3.5in HDD/SSD bays.

To cool this machine, air goes mainly through a gap between the side panel and chassis, before getting exhausted from the top. An unusual setup, and one that may contribute to dust built-up in the long run.

Front I/O comprises one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C, two USB 2.0 Type-A, and customary headset and microphone jacks. To the rear, the motherboard provides a further four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, two USB 2.0 Type-A, two PS/2 ports, one VGA, an HDMI, Gigabit LAN and three 3.5mm audio jacks.

The MAG META 5 5E comes with Windows 11 installed, but no optical device. Pricing, availability, and warranty are still to be disclosed.
