New AMD chipset may debut at Computex, complete with BIOS and RAM changes

New AM5 motherboards, complete with CUDIMM support, are likely bound for Computex 2026.

Taiwanese manufacturer Biostar has announced plans to showcase “next-gen” AMD motherboards at Computex 2026, likely hinting at the imminent launch of a new AM5 chipset. The company hasn’t gone into detail about what we should expect from these upcoming boards, but leakers are already pointing to potential upgrades to RAM support.

AMD has been teasing full AM5 CUDIMM support for a while, so it should come as no surprise that rumours point to that as a primary differentiator for the new chipset. While the motherboards will undoubtedly be backwards compatible with Ryzen CPUs, it remains unclear whether this feature would remain exclusive to Zen 6 chips and beyond on account of IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) limitations.

X tech rumourmonger Zed__Wang suggests that the new motherboards will amount to “another [Promontory 21] refresh”, referring to the architecture that powers every AM5 chipset bar B840. If true, this should mean a prospective X970E board won’t be radically different than existing X870E options, but the leaker does state BIOS and RAM support have undergone “fundamental changes.”

Following the initial publication of its press release, Biostar has curiously removed mention of “next-gen” from its copy. However, rather than this indicating an error, evidence suggests we’re more likely staring down an edit in service of embargo adherence. Regardless, we’ll learn more come June 2, when Computex 2026 kicks off.

AMD hasn’t announced plans to host a keynote at Computex 2026 at the time of writing, which has served as the platform for chipset launches in the past. However, there’s still every chance the company’s finalising business behind closed doors, as we’re still a few weeks out from the trade show. Here’s hoping to see those Ryzen 7 5800X3D re-release rumours come to pass too.
