Nvidia just updated the G-Sync Pulsar firmware, claims it’s now like using a 1,000Hz monitor

Nvidia says moving picture response times are now measuring below 1.0ms in some cases, improving motion clarity.

Nvidia has released a new firmware update for G-Sync Pulsar monitors, which it says will improve perceived motion smoothness, brightness, and latency. Version 1.1.10 is said to boost 240/260Hz motion clarity, while delivering sub-1ms MPRT response times on current 1440p 360Hz Pulsar-ready monitors.

According to the update changelog, this update brings the sharpness of 60Hz ULMB2 to these monitors’ 240Hz and 360Hz modes, while retaining their full 480nits of brightness.

At the same time, Nvidia claims moving picture response time (MPRT) has improved by up to 33% in 240Hz mode, from 2.05ms to 1.37ms, with some configurations dropping below 1ms, such as running at 240Hz with a ULMB2 pulse width of 50, which achieved a 0.97ms response time (MPRT). Nvidia says this is the equivalent motion clarity of running your monitor at 1,000Hz.

This firmware update also improves moving image sharpness for 240Hz and 360Hz refresh rates with ULMB2 and Pulsar, which should help with target detection in fast-paced games. Speaking of which, Nvidia says version 1.1.10 also improves Pulsar’s reliability in visually chaotic games, where it was previously turning off to prevent artifacts.

Note, however, that this update does not fix the 320fps bug that caused high input lag. In the meantime, connecting a secondary monitor seems to prevent this issue from appearing. The team is also working on reducing the input lag for 60Hz ULMB2 on DisplayPort and HDMI.

The full changelog us as follows:

  • Improved Pulsar on-time, reduced Pulsar turning off with high entropy games.
  • Improved moving image sharpness for 240 and 360 ULMB2 and Pulsar
  • The sharpness of ULMB 60 will now be available for 240 and 360 ULMB, but at full 480nits brightness.
  • Measured MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time) of 240Hz at Pulse Width 50 is below 1.0ms, or > 1000Hz equivalent!
