Nvidia just published a driver hotfix that squashes some colourful bugs on your GeForce GPU

A remedy to colour banding and more on GeForce GPUs, this is one hotfix I certainly won't be skipping.

The GeForce RTX 50 Series hasn’t had the most stable batch of drivers at its back, and Nvidia is closing out the year how it began with a final hotfix before the end of 2025. Like other display drivers of this nature published by Team Green, there’s no WHQL certification to go along with them. That said, my inclination is that you’ll want to get this particular patch up and running your graphics card for the best holiday gaming experience.

Dubbed ‘GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 591.67’, the patch is based on the latest WHQL release, namely Game Ready Driver 591.59 which has been available since December 18. This hotfix contains all the fixes of that driver, while also addressing some other issues that Nvidia felt couldn’t wait its next release, due January 1, 2026.

In the changelog, Nvidia details that driver 591.67 fixes three issues:

  • Slight banding may be observed on gradients in SDR color mode [5720512]
  • Colors are not applied correctly when using Digital Vibrance [5718365]
  • Unable to deselect “Show Notification Tray Icon” from NVIDIA Control Panel [5622213]

The latter two fixes are welcome but won’t have a massive impact for most people. Digital Vibrance, for example, will only bring joy to those that make use of the saturation booster in the Nvidia Control Panel. I can’t say I know many that actively use the setting, but bully for those who do.

It’s the first fix that grabs my attention, and prompts me to recommend most GeForce users install the hotfix. The ‘slight banding’ Nvidia describes here refers to artifacts in colour gradients, resulting in visible bands (or shades) of colour rather than a smooth progression. The most common place you’re likely to cross them are skyboxes and shadowy areas, manifesting as bands of blue and grey.

Given that this particular problem affects SDR colour mode, rather than HDR, the majority of GeForce users out there are prone to suffering from this issue. As someone that appreciates beautiful, colour-accurate displays, I can’t idly standby and let this problem spoil that precious holiday gaming period. So, here I am, sounding the alarm.

You can download driver 591.67 here, with support for both Windows 11 and 10. If this hotfix causes unexpected issues on your system, you can always rollback to 591.59 via a clean install.

I hope Nvidia, and by extension the GeForce RTX 50 series, can enjoy a more stable 2026. This year alone saw drivers cause BSODs, inter-generational compatibility issues, and hard crashes. To quote D:Ream, things can only get better.
