It’s that time of the year when you put more games on your wishlist than your wallet can support. This year’s Gamescom has showcased some promising new games, DLCs, and even TV shows, many of which I am eager to see. So, without further ado, here are my favourite announcements.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV
I don’t know about you, but it has been a long time since I had ork minced meat. I have also missed classic real-time strategy games where hordes of troops fight to the last. Dawn of War IV will hopefully fill both needs in one go when it launches next year. As a fan of the original game, I have big expectations for this one. The devs are promising no fewer than 70 campaign missions, spread throughout four factions. I especially appreciate how the series allows you to see the story from the other side, be it Eldar or Orks. If I can do that again, then it’s a win for me.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7
Black Ops has always been somewhat special with all the mind-washing, secret-agent, cold-war shenanigans, but this time it’s taken to a whole new realm, literally. From the giant boss at the end of the trailer to the bent highways a la Doctor Strange’s mirror dimension, this COD entry seems to stray the furthest from a real setting. This is clearly the point many are worried about, as shown by the massive dislike rate of the trailer video.
Personally, I don’t care much about the setting as long as the gameplay is fun. COD games are more about multiplayer and having fun with friends. And to that end, Black Ops 7 seems to check all the boxes, from the quick action online PVP to the great Zombie horde smashing. There is even a Co-Op Campaign. However, unlike when Black Ops 6 released, the competition will be tough as Battlefield 6 looks promising.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of Giants
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is one of those titles I wouldn’t have tested if it weren’t on Game Pass. With how nice it turned out, I am glad to have tried it. It has a good balance between puzzles, exploration, and combat. Plus, it has Harrison Ford. I also liked how the game didn’t hold your hand when it came to finding hidden treasures; you had to use your detective senses to find many secrets. So, getting to explore more of those ancient temples isn’t something I would mind. I just hope the DLC is long enough.
Fallout season 2
This one is simple. I watched season 1, I liked it, now I want to watch season 2. In all seriousness, from recent memory, I feel like we had so many, maybe too many, game adaptations that ended up being subpar, to not say shameful. Fallout is one of the rare ones that turned out to be good while respecting the game’s lore. So, if you tell me I can have more of a good thing, I will oblige.
World of Tanks 2.0
I wasn’t expecting this at all. I have spent countless hours in the F2P game, in fact, more than any other, but I had to stop because it’s a time hog. So, when I saw that it’s moving to a new version, I was super-hyped, to say the least. Like with v1.0, v2.0 means massive changes to the game, from new tanks to new mechanics and maps.
The biggest changes I am looking forward to are:
- The new vehicles which move above Tier X for the first time in the game’s history.
- The matchmaker rebalancing, which wasn’t the finest previously.
- The new Personal Missions 3.0, where I can claim three new special tanks.
So, this is my excuse to go back to this time-consuming game.
With my main list out of the way, here are some bonus announcements that I will keep an eye on, as these seem promising, too. First, Resident Evil Requiem, simply because who doesn’t like a little scary story, plus it has been some time since Resident Evil Village. Next, Cronos: The New Dawn as it reminds me of Dead Space, and I loved the Dead Space series. Road Kings, because I spent hours in Euro Truck Simulator. Lastly, Battlestar Galactica Scattered Hopes, since its TV show is one of my all-time favourites, so I hope the game turns out to be worthy of the license.
