be quiet! unleashes next-gen Dark Rock 6 coolers, focusing on quiet operation and high performance

Whether you're building a heavily overclocked workstation or upgrading a high-end gaming system, the Dark Rock 6 series promises great cooling capacity and quiet operation.

Low-noise cooling specialist be quiet! has just announced the Dark Rock Pro 6 and Dark Rock 6, its next-gen CPU air coolers, targeting high-end builds, overclocked systems, and quiet PCs. Featuring new designs alongside an optional semi-passive mode, the company claims this new series offers lower noise and improved performance compared to its predecessor.

Combining clean aesthetics with functional details, the Dark Rock 6 and Dark Rock Pro 6 slot into place among the brand’s high-end air coolers, with newly optimised heatsinks and high-performance heatpipes. Both come equipped with custom-designed Silent Wings PWM fans boasting advanced fluid dynamic bearings, optimised fan blades, tight tip clearance, and 3-phase, 6-pole motors. Complementing this arrangement is an easily accessible switch that allows you to configure the ensemble for high performance or low noise. Both coolers are compatible with Intel’s LGA 1851, 1700, 1200, and 115x sockets, as well as AMD’s AM5 and AM4 platforms.

Dark Rock Pro 6

Starting with the flagship Dark Rock Pro 6, we find a dual-tower cooler, built for maximum cooling performance, whether it’s used in a mid-range gaming rig or a hand-tuned overclocked system. Measuring 147x140x169mm (LxWxH) and weighing 1,336g, the Pro version promises extremely high cooling performance while remaining virtually inaudible, thanks to its two custom-designed Silent Wings fans and seven optimised high-performance heatpipes.

To take advantage of all the available space without impacting RAM and motherboard compatibility, the Dark Rock Pro 6 uses two different fan sizes, 135mm in the centre plus 120mm above the RAM slots. The latter is adjustable in height thanks to a rail system, enabling you to make room for large and RGB-equipped DDR5 kits. The brand claims that the different fan sizes and rotational speeds reduce overlapping noise frequencies, which results in quieter overall operation.

Both fans are already tuned to work in tandem to deliver sufficient airflow at low noise levels, but be quiet! also gives you the option to improve acoustics further by toggling them to a semi-passive quiet mode, where the fans can stop completely at up to a 40% PWM signal. The manufacturer claims that the Dark Rock Pro 6 offers up to a 3.5°C temperature reduction compared to its Dark Rock Elite, reaching 78.6°C at 253W load. Speaking of which, this model is said to be capable of handling CPUs with up to 300W TDP loads.

But that’s not all – be quiet! has also streamlined the installation process thanks to a simpler mounting system for both the fans and heatsink. The design looks elegant too, rocking a ceramic-particle black coating, brushed aluminium badge, and side covers. Lastly, the base plate is nickel-plated, making it safe to use with liquid-metal thermal compounds for those who want even more performance.

Dark Rock 6

For £15 less, we find the Dark Rock 6, a single-tower variant of the Dark Rock Pro 6 that keeps all the main features of the flagship but squeezes them into a smaller size. As a successor to both the Dark Rock Slim and Dark Rock 5, the Dark Rock 6 looks set to deliver powerful cooling in a compact design, maintaining compatibility with smaller cases that can’t accommodate the Pro version. Like its sibling, it carries an optimised heatsink and fan, but this time using just a single 135mm Silent Wings plus six heatpipes. As a result, this model’s dimensions are just 102x139x162mm (LxWxH), and it weighs 1,005g.

Even so, the Dark Rock 6 is said to deliver up to 4.6°C lower temperatures compared to the Dark Rock 5, reaching 79.7°C at 253W load. This claim is even more impressive when you consider that be quiet! rates this model for a max TDP of just 220W.

Like its bigger brother, the Dark Rock 6 also includes a hardware switch to toggle between performance and semi-passive quiet modes, with the brand claiming just 31.1dBA of noise at maximum speed. The same goes for the fan mounting rail system, special ceramic-particle black coating, brushed-aluminium magnetic top cover, and the liquid-metal compatible nickel-plated base.
