We unboxed MSI’s Mandalorian and Grogu RTX 5080 graphics card, and it looks fab

Fire up the Razor Crest, MSI’s GeForce RTX 5080 The Mandalorian and Grogu Edition OC graphics card is now official, and we’ve had the chance to unbox it and see the precious cargo inside. It looks like a grand card, and Grogu also lends a hand, working as a support to stop it sagging. Shall we take a look? Yes, this is the way…

As you’d expect for a collaboration of this calibre, MSI has dolled up the packaging for this graphics card. While the front and back carry some unique subtle touches, the side of the box is nothing short of gorgeous. MSI could have gone with a tacky graphic here, but instead there’s a classy portrait of Mando and Grogu that echoes the quality of Star Wars concept artist Ralph McQuarrie.

Open the box, and look who’s there! It’s Grogu, or The Child, or Baby Yoda, depending on your preferred name for this cute little Force wizard. The top of his head unscrews so you can prop up the end of the graphics card – more on that later. There are also four alternative plate designs that magnetically attach to the card’s backplate to cover its rear exhaust port, including the iconic Mandalorian helmet, a green Grogu design, and logos for the Empire and Rebel Alliance.

Moving onto the card itself, it’s based on MSI’s Gaming Tri Frozr 4 cooler, and there’s a premium brushed-metal backplate that MSI says is inspired by Din Djarin’s armour. Unlike that iconic beskar suit, though, you don’t have to wear the helmet. As you can see, we’ve popped in the green Grogu grille, which looks top.

Meanwhile, the front of the card replaces the MSI logos in the middle of each StormForce fan with Mandalorian icons, and the silver and brown scheme continues to echo Mando’s armour. This is a solid cooler design, with its three fans pushing cool air through the heatsink fins, and hot air is then exhausted out of the grille on the back. There’s RGB lighting glowing under those translucent areas on the front as well, so you can customise its look.

Let’s lay out all the bits so you can have a proper look at them. There are all the grille options for the backplate, and Grogu is keeping watch. Good job we don’t have a jar of expensive frogs anywhere nearby. Speaking of which, let’s take a close-up look at that unique graphics card support.

There he is! This little fella is stronger than he looks too. Unscrew his little hat at the top, and you can adjust Grogu’s height, so he can hold up your card and stop it drooping. Brilliant.

Naturally, there’s also a powerful GPU inside this card, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 no less. That’s a solid choice, being our favourite high-end chip on the Club386 guide to buying the best GPU. That gives you 16GB of fast GDDR7 VRAM, and an Nvidia Blackwell GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores at its disposal. That “OC Edition” badge on the box suggests MSI has also given this card an overclock, so it should be faster than a Founders Edition.

This limited edition graphics card will be available May 22, coinciding with the release of the film, with stock available at Scan in the UK on this date. We don’t yet know how many credits or Flan you’ll need to spend to grab one, but may the Force be with anyone hoping to cop one of the 500 units in Europe.
