Scalpers are hoarding AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition CPUs, now selling for over $600

Thanks to outlandish DDR5 prices, people are willing to pay nearly double the price for this AM4 gaming CPU.

AMD’s rereleased Ryzen 7 5800X3D has vanished from stores minutes after its official launch, as scalpers grab all available stock to resell it on marketplaces. Listings on eBay for the 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition have been spotted reaching $660, which is nearly double the MSRP of $349.

Despite being offered by many major retailers, it seems that the initial stock of AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition was insufficient to soak up both regular and opportunistic demand. While we don’t know for sure if these stores had a large amount of stock on hand, we know that a good chunk was bought by scalpers to be resold for much more on marketplaces.

According to Tom’s Hardware, which has been monitoring availability, the CPU was only briefly in stock before selling out. Micro Center now appears to be the only US store with confirmed availability, as it only offers the processor through its physical stores, which is too much of a hassle for scalpers looking for easy money. The store also offers AM4 upgrade bundles containing compatible motherboards and DDR4 memory.

Going back to eBay and looking at the sold items, we find that several completed sales have been recorded, including units sold at $650. Unfortunately, this shows that, no matter the price, some people will always be willing to pay for it. With DDR5 memory now commanding very high prices, upgrading to an AM5 equivalent system has become out of reach for many people.

Technically, the new 5800X3D is identical to the original released in 2022. The specs and performance of the new chip should be identical to the original. When we caught up with AMD at Computex 2026, the company told us that the chip needed to be entirely respun (re-engineered) for mass fabrication, since the original bonding process TSMC used for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D was no longer available. It’s still the same chip, though, right down to the OPN (part number) on the heatspreader.

Nowadays, even at its official $349 MSRP, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition isn’t that great of a deal. It’s mainly valuable for those already owning an AM4 platform and looking for a quick and easy upgrade.
