Arc GPUs aren’t dead yet as Intel lists jobs for high-end graphics and new XeSS features lurk in drivers

High-end Arc SoCs and XeSS Multi Frame Generation are in the works at Intel.

The future of Arc graphics has never been certain, despite the welcome improvement that is Intel’s Xe2 architecture. Partnerships with Nvidia have since catalysed concerns that future Team Blue GPUs may go the way of the dinosaurs, but the company is moving forward with plans that suggest that life, uh, is finding a way.

X user Haze2K1 shared the most concrete evidence that Intel has no intention of exiting the dedicated graphics market. The company has recently posted a job listing, seeking an engineer to validate and optimise “high-end desktop System-on-Chip (Soc) designs focusing on dGFX Gaming performance.”

Not only does this role indicate Intel’s ambitions to continue offering dedicated graphics solutions, but also shows the company’s intent to compete beyond the entry-level space as it has with Arc B580 and all other offerings thus far. That is, of course, until Arc B770 hopefully materialises and gives us another midrange competitor.

This listing likely refers to Intel’s Xe3 architecture, otherwise known as Celestial. In December 2024, prior to the launch of Arc B580, the company confirmed its next GPU designs were complete from a hardware perspective, leaving only validation and optimisation work. Of course, there’s a chance the job is for graphics further afield, namely Xe4.

We’ll never know the specifics of what these engineers will work on, but it’s clear that Intel isn’t shying away from pouring resources into future Arc GPUs. Here’s hoping these efforts result in some welcome competition, as there’s a long road ahead before the company’s market share can become anything close to meaningful.

Shifting focus to the near-future, Intel may be working on improvements to its XeSS 2 suite too. While sifting through the code of the most-recent Arc graphics driver, Redditor Organic-Bird-587 stumbled upon references to as as-yet unannounced multi-frame generation feature.

At the time of writing, Nvidia DLSS 4 is the only suite to support multi frame generation, while both AMD FSR 4 and Intel XeSS 2 top out at single frame generation. It’s unclear what stage of development (if any) this feature is in, but such an upgrade would help elevate Arc GPUs to be on more level footing with GeForce RTX 50 Series competition.

Perhaps Intel will announce XeSS-MFG alongside Arc B770? We’ll just have to wait and see. In any case, I’m just glad to see signs that there’s more to look forward to from Arc.
