Getting a gaming laptop is no small investment. Unlike a full desktop, you can’t easily replace parts, meaning they’ve got to last you. Components primed to play the latest titles aren’t cheap, either, but there’s a light at the end of the dark, expensive tunnel. Last year’s Asus ROG Strix 15 is currently the lowest price we’ve ever seen, and it packs a punch.

Chopping 29% off the price on Amazon US, Asus ROG Strix 15 sits under the $1,500 mark. That’s a $550 saving, and it’s only ever been this low once before at the end of August. The deal wasn’t even this good during Black Friday. UK folks see a similarly good saving, as a 17% discount brings the same laptop down to £2,002.

Most of the value comes from previous generation hardware. The gaming laptop packs an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and two-generation-old Intel Core i9 12900H. While they might not be today’s best graphics card and best CPU, they were when they first came out and still hold their own today. Backed by DLSS 2, you’ll get almost anything to run smoothly.

We’re at a point where minimum system requirements demand at least 16GB of RAM. That’s another box checked for ROG Strix 15, which uses the latest DDR5 standard. The only difference between the US and the UK model is storage, with Brits getting a 2TB NVMe SSD as opposed to 1TB. Either is plenty to store your games and it’s getting easier to upgrade with devices like the Corsair MP600.

The screen is probably the star of the show. With 1440p resolution on an IPS panel, everything will look detailed, and colours will pop. You’ll need a bit of luck maxing out the lofty 240Hz refresh rate, but it’s better to have it and not need it than constantly hitting that 60Hz ceiling.

Giving it the Asus touch, the numpad is baked into the touchpad, there’s an RGB bar that gives you a bit of personal flair, and the MUX switch gives you the option to conserve battery life when you don’t need to use the discrete GPU. There’s a lot to love, and even more now that it respects your bank account.

If you’re still on the fence, then consider 12% off the Corsair Voyager a1600 instead. The gaming laptop similarly features an IPS 240Hz QHD screen, but it has a 16:10 aspect ratio instead. The all-AMD kit includes a Ryzen 9 6900HS, Radeon RX 6800M, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM, all for $1,400. It even includes a fully mechanical Cherry MX Ultra-low keyboard and dedicated macro keys powered by Elgato software.

Corsair Voyager a1600 might only say 12% off, but it originally landed at $3,000 and regularly sits around $2,200. We can only hope this discount is the new norm, but the only other time we’ve seen it this low is Black Friday.
