Our most eagerly anticipated game of 2023 is nearly upon us. Having gone gold earlier this month, Diablo IV is racing toward a June 6 launch and developer Blizzard is now lifting the lid on PC system requirements.
Always a nervous moment for cash-strapped gamers wanting to experience the latest titles, but fear not, as the game’s minimum requirements for high-quality 1080p rendering aren’t overly strenuous. It’s only at 4K Ultra the going gets tough.
Using data from recent Early Access and Open Beta weekends, Blizzard has pored through performance metrics and conjured four specific tiers for PC gamers of varying budgets. Even an ageing GTX 970 is deemed sufficient for 1080p60 at medium settings, while a combination of Core i7-8700K/Ryzen 2700X and GeForce RTX 2060/Radeon RX 5700 XT is listed as the minimum when cranking quality settings up to high.
There’s no mention of 1440p settings – an odd omission given the soaring popularity of QHD monitors – yet for those wanting to play Diablo IV at its very best, 4K Ultra requirements bump the GPU to GeForce RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 6800 XT. You’ll also need 32GB of RAM, and system requirements also reveal the game will occupy 90GB of disk space at launch.
Blizzard does state “Diablo IV will attempt to run on hardware below minimum specifications, including HDDs, dual-core CPUs, and Integrated GPUs,” albeit with the ominous proviso that “the game experience may be significantly diminished.”
