Noctua has proven once more that its promise of free future socket support to existing cooler owners is not mere hyperbole. The Austrian cooling specialist recently sent a free upgrade kit all the way to the Philippines, and though the shipment took a month to reach its destination, it’s a reminder that good customer service goes a long way.
In this latest example, spotted on Reddit, an 8-year-old Noctua NH-D15 has found a new home inside a small-form-factor machine after its owner requested a socket mounting upgrade kit. According to Redditor SingularLongan, Noctua agreed to provide this upgrade kit without fuss, only asking for a picture of the hardware alongside a note containing their name and date; no proof of purchase. And the best part, the owner didn’t have to pay a penny.
What’s impressive is that the cooler itself is 12 years old, having originally launched way back in 2014. So how long exactly does Noctua’s out-of-warranty support last? There doesn’t appear to be a hard limit as such, with the manufacturer stating it will provide free-of-charge mounting parts of fan clips for heatsinks that are 10, 15, or even 20 years old. In other words, as long as the cooler can be adapted to support the related socket, you’re golden.
Thanks to this exemplary service, the 8-year-old NH-D15 in question continues to live inside a new mATX build, proving that paying extra for a reputable brand can end up offering better value down the line. By doing this, Noctua shows that whether you still rock an old cooler or own the latest NH-D15 G2, it has your back.

Do note however that the free upgrade path only relates to the standard mounting hardware, meaning no exotic accessories or offset kits, be it for Intel or AMD. Still, I can’t think of many other eight-year-old components in my PC that would receive this level of support. There’s admittedly an upfront premium to Noctua coolers, but we all know the old adage, you get what you pay for.
