Nvidia reportedly misses key GeForce RTX 5080 24GB deadline, jeopardising expected launch plan

January 2027 could still see Nvidia announce the GeForce RTX 5080 24GB, but the likelihood of this graphics card being available at the same time now looks slim.

While the GeForce RTX 5080 24GB launch looks more certain by the day, Nvidia has apparently left graphics card manufacturers in the lurch and brought this rumoured model’s release timings into question. Despite reportedly planning to deliver design kits to its partners by the end of October, no such data has seemingly materialised.

These claims come from Chinese PC hardware outlet BenchLife, which challenges prior rumours that claimed the RTX 5080 24GB will launch in January. According to the site’s source, the lack of design kits at this stage makes it highly unlikely that manufacturers would be able to provide stock in time for that release target.

While we don’t expect the RTX 5080 24GB to greatly differ from existing RTX 5080 16GB designs, graphics cards based on it still require the usual validation checks leading up to launch. For example, companies may need to ensure their designs can accommodate the rumoured 415W TDP, in place of the 360W the current model draws.

BenchLife doesn’t share the reasons for this apparent delay. However, Nvidia has publicly described its supply chain capacity as “somewhat constrained,” while dismissing RTX 5090 discontinuation rumours. It’s likely the company is facing similar challenges leading up to the RTX 5080 24GB launch, and there’s still a chance this GPU SKU could face the same oblivion as the long-rumoured GeForce RTX 50 Super refresh.

There’s no new estimated time of arrival for RTX 5080 24GB design kits, but the longer manufacturers have to wait, the longer it will take for graphics cards to hit the market. Should this lead time make it impossible for stock to support a January release date, Nvidia could still announce the refresh, possibly during CES 2027, with the promise of availability at a later date.

In the meantime, RTX 5080 16GB prices sit at a minimum of £1,292 / $1,999 at the of writing, and continue to climb. The cost of other graphics cards are also on the rise, but there are still some pixel pushers worth grabbing. Check our best GPU guide for our latest recommendations.
