The time of the RTX 3060 is over as the RTX 5070 now claims the Steam Hardware Survey’s top spot, with a whoppingly big market share of 6.15%. Nvidia is enjoying other victories in this arena too, while AMD and Intel both flounder.
The RTX 5070 assumes the proverbial throne with a decisive increase in ownership, growing in popularity by +2.38% from the prior month. Meanwhile, the former peoples’ champion is on the down, falling in prevalence by -0.26%, and falling into fifth place overall.
Nvidia claims the other podium positions with other GeForce RTX 50 series cards, namely the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti, each increasing their respective market share by +1.24% and +1.51%. It’s unclear how much of the latter model’s success is down to the 16GB or 8GB model, but we’d presume the latter given the massive price difference between them at the time of writing.
Both the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 have also enjoyed a modest bump, with respective increases of +0.05% and +0.27%. Meanwhile, the RTX 5050 sees no change, and the RTX 5090 falls down a touch by -0.03%. Their higher memory capacity has seen the price of all three soar in recent months, naturally hampering their ability to catch up to the likes of the RTX 5070.
Looking to competitors, no AMD or Intel graphics card has seen their popularity increase by a crumb. The Radeon RX 9070 XT remains the most popular named alternative to Nvidia’s offerings, but only makes up 1.42% of Steam users. There’s sadly nary a sign of the Arc B580 nor the Radeon RX 9070 GRE, despite those graphics cards remaining a relatively solid value buy given the current RAM crisis.
It’s surprising to see the RTX 5070 at the head of the pack, rather than the RTX 5060, taking current pricing and historical trends that have seen 60 class graphics cards usually occupy this spot. Prebuilds could be playing a large part in this growth, with system integrators providing one of the last means of picking up a pixel pusher, and components in general, at an agreeable price.
I’m curious to see how long the midrange offering can maintain its lead, particularly as any true successors by way of the GeForce RTX 60 series likely won’t arrive until 2028. While we wait to see how the scales tip, check our picks of the best graphics card on the market.
