HWiNFO announces upcoming per-chip memory temperature monitoring for both AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce graphics cards, opening new ways to diagnose cooler performance. This includes all AMD offerings since the Radeon RX 5000 plus all GDDR6X- and GDDR7-equipped Nvidia GeForce cards.
Following the recent development in Nvidia graphics card temperature sensing, which exposed per-chip GDDR7 hardware monitoring and brought back hotspot GPU temperature reporting, today we are getting per-chip memory monitoring for both brands. According to Mumak, the author of HWiNFO, the app will begin displaying per-chip temperatures for all Navi series since Navi 10, i.e., Radeon RX 5000, 6000, 7000, and 9000. Better yet, for the flagship RX 9070 XT card, the app will show two temperature readings for each of the eight channels/chips.
While Mumak didn’t indicate why the RX 9070 XT is the only one with this special feature, exposing one sensor per GDDR6 module is already comprehensive. This should allow thorough diagnostics of any problematic coolers that may have improper contact with one or more GDDR6 chips. Such readings will be handy on out-of-warranty cards, especially if you face problems after repasting the GPU or replacing the thermal pads.

Until now, all GPUs exposed only a single memory temperature reading, without indicating if it represents an average, a hotspot, or a random sensor. While previous attempts have been made by brands such as EVGA and Asus, which embedded multiple temperature sensors near the memory chips of their FTW and Astral series, respectively, none offered such a granular reading.
On the Nvidia side, all GDDR6- and GDDR7-equipped graphics cards are also getting per-chip temperature monitoring, meaning GeForce RTX 30 (RTX 3070 Ti and up), 40, and 50 Series. It isn’t clear however why Nvidia’s GDDR6 non-X are not receiving the same treatment. Maybe something left for a future update? Other than this, HWiNFO is also adding GPU hotspot monitoring on Nvidia’s RTX 50 Series.
Although the change log didn’t reveal a specific release version or date for these features, we expect them to become available fairly soon, if previous announcements are any indication.
