The full Nvidia DLSS 5 suite now runs on AMD Radeon GPUs, thanks to this mod

DLSS-NR-on-AMD adds Nvidia Neural Rendering, Ray Reconstruction, and Multi Frame Generation support to AMD Radeon RX 9000, 7000, and 6000 GPUs.

The Nvidia DLSS 5 feature set has been completely ported to work on AMD’s Radeon GPUs, including Neural Rendering, by a modder. Naturally, this version may not be as stable or optimised as Nvidia’s official implementation on its own GPUs, and users are also reporting a mixed bag of results.

Debuted as a mod for Radeon users wanting to enable Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling, DLSS-NR-on-AMD has evolved to include DLSS upscaling, DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, DLSS Ray Reconstruction, and DLSS Multi-Frame Generation (MFG). While AMD has some equivalent technologies, namely FSR 4.1 upscaling and FSR (Redstone) Ray Regeneration, it still lacks MFG and Neural Rendering. Furthermore, AMD’s in-house alternatives aren’t supported by anywhere near as many games as DLSS.

Specifically, DLSS-NR-on-AMD v0.8.0 now enables DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution (Models M and L), Ray Reconstruction (Model F), and up to 4x MFG in supported games. Interestingly enough, FSR 4.1 is also included to give users an option that doesn’t rely on Radeon driver support (whitelist).

In case you were worried about configuring all of this, DLSS-NR-on-AMD has you covered with its NeuralHub, which allows you to manage it all from a centralised overlay. That said, you still need to bring your own DLL files for each Nvidia technology, though this isn’t that hard.

According to its creator, DLSS-NR-on-AMD is a full reimplementation of every DLSS neural network runtime for AMD GPU architectures (HIP kernels, memory layouts, game integration), written from scratch. At the moment, the mod mainly targets DirectX 12 games running on Windows 11, and it supports AMD Radeon RX 9000, RX 7000, and RX 6000 GPUs, despite the lack of any dedicated hardware on the latter.

Performance-wise, the developer claims that DLSS-NR-on-AMD can run DLSS 5 Neural Rendering at 90-100fps on a Radeon RX 9070 XT, with the goal of matching the performance of an Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti in the future. User tests, on the other hand, are a mixed bag, with some reporting up to a 25% hit and others claiming no performance degradation in Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing at 1440p.

For instance, one user reports that enabling DLSS 4.5 in place of FSR 4.1 dropped frame rates from 120fps to 90fps, with an additional fall to 68fps after enabling Ray Reconstruction. This indicates that performance can vary a lot based on the features you select.

This mod is just in its alpha phase at the moment, but it’s already working with plenty of games; just don’t expect performance or stability equivalent to an official DLSS implementation. So far, Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 9, and Pragmata have been reported as not working.
