Nvidia allegedly no longer accepting RTX 5090 GPU and VRAM orders from graphics card makers

According to statements given to der8auer, Nvidia is no longer supplying the RTX 5090's GB202 GPU or GDDR7 VRAM and isn't accepting back orders.

While Nvidia maintains that it hasn’t discontinued the GeForce RTX 5090, manufacturers are struggling to get the parts necessary to create the graphics card. According to recent statements shared by tech YouTuber der8auer, the firm is no longer offering GPU and VRAM bundles nor is it allowing board partners to place back orders.

To recap, rumours of an RTX 5090 discontinuation emerged at the beginning of October 2026, with claims that GB202 GPU dies are now exclusively heading towards RTX Pro series cards. Nvidia has since denied this, highlighting that RTX 5090 supply constraints are to blame for a lack of stock at major retailers such as Micro Center.

Following these events, der8auer spoke to board partners through official channels who expectedly didn’t deviate from Nvidia’s messaging. However, speaking to individuals that are “deeply involved” at these companies and graphics card manufacturing, shed more light on the situation.

According to the unnamed sources, Nvidia hasn’t informed board partners that the RTX 5090 has reached end-of-life status. However, companies are unable to purchase the GB202 GPU and 32GB of GDDR7 bundle to make the graphics card, nor are they certain if they’ll be able to in the future.

Supply shortages have stifled production in the past, but companies have been able to back order components from Nvidia. Curiously, this is no longer possible, but the source fell sort of providing an explanation as to why this is the case.

Speaking with a graphics card cooler manufacturer, that works directly with board partners, demand for RTX 5090 items has already fallen. Going into more detail, der8auer’s source claims that two of their clients have “already reduce quite much [sic] the order forecast for RTX 5090 based heatsinks in Q1 2027, when compare with Q3 2026.”

More damningly, this same source claims that it has received no orders for RTX 5090 model heatsinks for Q2 2027. It’s possible that board partners could purchase coolers in the near future, but it’s highly unlikely this will be in any great volume if these supply chain constraints don’t change, based on the previously described decline.

Taking the above statements at face value, it seems the RTX 5090 is still technically in production. However, given how severe the supply constraints are, the graphics card is and will likely remain practically unobtainable for the foreseeable future.

A GeForce RTX 5080 Super 24GB is apparently en route, according to recent rumours. However, this will apparently follow a GeForce RTX 5080 16GB discontinuation, and could cost just under $3,000. Suffice to say, such a release would offer little respite to those in search of an affordable RTX 5090.
