Nvidia releases GeForce Game Ready Drivers 531.18 WHQL with RTX Video Super Resolution

Superior streaming in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

RTX 4090

Nvidia has published its latest GeForce Game Ready drivers, version 531.18, bringing game optimisations, some bug fixes, and RTX Video upscaling.

This update adds support for The Finals Closed Beta and Atomic Heart, with the latter getting DLSS 3 image generation, alongside bug fixes related to Forza Horizon 4 freezes, Modern Warfare 2’s occasional instability, plus a couple of Adobe applications issues. This driver also enables a Dead Space resizable bar profile which according to some players was the solution to poor performance and stuttering.

But that’s not all, the star of the show this time is Nvidia’s RTX Video Super Resolution which is meant to upscale low bitrate/resolution video streams to higher quality, sharper videos. To do so, compatible hardware, browsers, and drivers are needed. We already have the first part, requiring any RTX 3000 or 4000 graphics card from Nvidia, the second part was fulfilled by Google Chrome three weeks ago, and today’s driver is the last piece of the puzzle.

RTX Video Super Resolution - Demo

This technology works with YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc, upscaling the stream from as low as 360p to the display’s native resolution – up to 5K. However, some types of content are not compatible, including those with DRMs, HDR sources, and YouTube Shorts.

To enable RTX Video Super Resolution inside Nvidia’s Control Panel, head to ‘Adjust Video Image Settings’, enable ‘Super Resolution’ and set a quality level from 1 to 4. Every RTX GPU supports all scenarios at quality level 1, with RTX XX70 series and higher supporting all scenarios at quality level 4. Since this technology uses GPU resources, performance may be affected if playing GPU-intensive games or using creative apps in parallel.

Finally, for now, RTX 2000 Series is not yet supported, but Nvidia states it is working on adding compatibility at a later date.
